Leesburg Town Councilmember Zach Cummings and former Loudoun County prosecutor Russet Perry are vying to become the Democratic nominee for Virginia's competitive new 31st Senate District. The winner of the June 20 Democratic primary will face off against Republican Juan Pablo Segura in the newly redrawn district. Segura was endorsed by state Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel, R-27th, who is not seeking reelection. The redistricted 27th District doesn't include Fauquier County. Redistricting, which occurs every 10 years, split Fauquier County between the 31st and 28th districts.
